Mac OS X 10.5.6 ethernet adapter problem fix

I’m posting this to help any Google searchers having a problem with the MacBook Air ethernet USB adapter not being able to connect to a wired network.

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to Mac OS X 10.5.6 as part of checking out the new iWork and iLife. I discovered that my computer could NOT access our office network via ethernet (via the ethernet adapter that comes with the MacBook Air).

The crack network support crew at Hammock Inc. (also known as Sean) discovered  the problem is a “known” issue with the OS X version I’m using. (Here’s a discussion on Apple forums regarding it.)

The current work-around is to go into network settings and use the pull-down menu to select and create a “new location.” THEN, unplug and replug the ethernet connector into the USB adapter. Worked beautifully for me.
